Walk to the Fountain

After a short Dinner-break we walked along the Allegheny River and crossed the “Fort Duquesne Bridge” to the point where the Allegheny and the Monongahela River meet. There is the very big and awesome “Point State Park Fountain” from which you have a beautiful view about the Ohio River. We made a lot of funny and crazy photos in front of it. It was great fun!

Teambuilding

Playing games, making friends, and having a lot of fun were some of the things that we (the campers) got to do in the second day of camp.We all came from different places, some of us are from Germany and others came from all around the country. I think that we got to learn more about the different cultures around the world and even around the United States, some of us even got to learn new words in German!

It was really fun and excited to make new friends, we got to play ninja, which was really enjoyable and fun to do, and we got to play a game in which consist of asking random question to people and trying to answer them, in addition we got to play Frisbee and do some bubbles. Later on we got to paint the floor with chalk and make beautiful designs with chalk.  

Having the opportunity to make friends across the world and/or country is an opportunity that one can't never forget.

PIRATES VS. DOGERS

Going to the baseball stadium was really cool. The stadium was really big and fun to see. there was a "wave" the went around the stadium around the stadium over three times. Outside the stadium was really pretty and you could see the city from the inside. Sadly we lost but hopefully we will win the next one.

Tour of Allegheny

 Sunday after lunch we explored the campus of Allegheny. We split up in groups and did a scavenger hunt to find special pictures on campus. We had a guide that was a student at Allegheny to show us all of the cool places. Here you can see some examples :



The bridge is the cutest place with the flowers and the creek. It is also the best place for Geocatching.  ^^

Spotting Deer

This isn't a deer that we saw but it is hard to take pictures from the van!

On Sunday night we went out for a ride to spot out deer in certain areas,We went in three seperate mini vans and we all had a flashlight out our window searching for deer. At the beginning of the ride it was a little bit tricky because it seemed to be that every spot we went to there was no deer to be found. We kept on riding around and switching the flashlight from the right to the left window hoping to get some results. At that point it was sad to realize that all the spots we had gone so far didn't have at least one of all the deers we were expecting to see. We didn't give up on our hope to see one that night though, We kept riding around and throughout the night we ended up spotting about four deer. It was exciting to see how the deer eye's would shine red when all the mini vans would flash out their lights towards them. After having to spot out those deer we knew our night was accomplished because we didn't give up at the beginning and at the end of the night we saw some deer. I have to say our night was a great night overall.

Black Bear in PA

On Monday, 21^st July 2014 we met an officer of the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The state agency is responsible for wildlife conservation and management in PA., i.e. managing and protects wildlife as well as managing wildlife habitat. We got informed about the current situation of black bears in PA and how the Game Commission sets traps to conduct research and if necessary relocates them. In order to get the bear into the trap the Game Commission uses a lot of cake. After being trapped the bear is tranquilized, is recorded and checked for diseases.

Raccoon Creek State Park

At Raccoon State Park, we were introduced to our research project, which was to analyze the browsing of the white-tailed deer. We conducted our first part of the research at the forest at the park. Our group of 16 kids was split into 4 groups of 4 and spread out across the forest to record the vegetation present and whether or not it had been browsed. In addition, each group formed their own hypothesis about the white-tailed deer that they aimed to validate after completing their research. As a part of the research, we were introduced to recording data and keeping track of all data. Overall, Raccoon Creek State Park was an unforgettable experience.
